How long do shock absorbers last?

Jan 16, 2021

The average car travels a distance of 20,000 kilometers per year, and the shock absorbers must be replaced in pairs when replacing the shock absorbers. It is concluded that the replacement frequency is 4 years. In fact, the replacement frequency will vary according to different vehicle conditions, road conditions and shock absorber manufacturers.

Shock absorbers have two main functions for cars:

The first is to dampen the vibrations transmitted to the vehicle body caused by uneven roads or poor driving conditions, to maintain the smoothness of the vehicle and the comfort of the ride.

The second is to quickly eliminate the vibration of the axle and wheels caused by the road surface to ensure that the wheels grip the ground at any time, thereby ensuring the steering and braking functions of the vehicle and improving the safety of the vehicle.

The following methods can be used to check whether the shock absorber works well:

Under normal circumstances, if oil leakage is found in the shock absorber, it means that there is a problem with the shock absorber. At this time, it should be repaired to avoid abnormal operation of the shock absorber.

The second is to press the bumper firmly and then release it. If the car jumps 2 to 3 times, it means that the shock absorber is working well.

Third, when the car is driving slowly and braking urgently, if the car vibrates violently, it means there is a problem with the shock absorber.

Fourth, the car stops after driving 10km on a road with poor road conditions, and touches the shell with your hands. If it is not hot enough, it means that there is no resistance inside the shock absorber and the shock absorber does not work.
