How to check shock absorbers?

Nov 04, 2021

1. After the car owner has driven more than ten kilometers on a road with poor road conditions, stop the car, touch the shell of the shock absorber with his hand to see if it is hot. If it is not hot, it means that the shock absorber is not working properly. After adding lubricating oil, the shell heats up, indicating that the lack of oil in the shock absorber causes the phenomenon of non-working. If there is no heat after adding lubricating oil, it means that the shock absorber is malfunctioning.

2. Press the bumper hard and then release it. If a jump is found, it indicates that the shock absorber is working normally. When the car is driving (slowly moving forward), it then brakes hard. It is found that the car is vibrating more severely, and it is possible that the shock absorber is malfunctioning. At this time, remove the shock absorber, clamp the connecting ring at the lower end of the shock absorber with a vise, pull the shock absorber rod hard, and see if it takes no effort. If there is no resistance, the shock absorber may be out of oil. Otherwise, the parts of the valve are broken and need to be repaired quickly.

3. After checking through the above detection steps, if it is found that the shock absorber is indeed malfunctioning or there is no way to use it normally, we have to see if there are other problems, and check whether the shock absorber is leaking. The phenomenon. Check whether the gasket of the oil seal is broken and the nut is tightened. It is determined that the oil seal gasket is damaged and needs to be replaced in time. The nut is not tightened and needs to be tightened in time. After fixing the oil seal and screws, there is still oil leakage. At this time, it is still necessary to remove the shock absorber and further check whether it is caused by the large gap between the cylinder and the piston. Or check the piston connecting rod for signs of deformation and scratches on the surface. If the above phenomenon is found, it should be replaced or repaired in time.

4. In our daily driving process, do the shock absorbers make any abnormal noises when they are in use. Through these abnormal noises, we can determine which side has the problem. Generally, it may be the sound of the shock absorber colliding with the frame or leaf spring, or the lack of oil supply of the shock absorber. After troubleshooting the specific cause, repair it in time. .
