How do I know if I need to change my shock absorber?

Oct 13, 2021

How to judge whether the shock absorber should be replaced? This is judged based on the damping force. When this force is smaller, our shock absorber is also softer. If this is the case, the effect of the spring in absorbing vibrations will deteriorate, and the adhesion of the body, tires, and the ground will also decrease, but the comfort has been improved, making it more suitable for use in family cars. If it is a resistance spring, it will make the adhesion stronger, which is more suitable for sports cars.

The performance of the shock absorber should be replaced in three points:

1. After we have driven for ten kilometers, if the shock absorber shell is not particularly hot, it means that your shock absorber is not working. If you add lubricating oil and it works, it means that it is okay. If it still doesn't work, change it.

2. There is abnormal noise and oil leakage. Oil leaks are easier to find, but abnormal noises are difficult, so replace them as soon as you find them. Then when the car is turning, watch the roll of the car body. If the roll is significantly increased, then your shock absorber should be replaced.

3. When you are parking, if you give the body a force, if your body shakes a lot, then it means you should change the shock absorber.
