The shock absorber of a car is composed of two parts, one is a coil spring and the other is called a damping element. These two components are operated in parallel and both interact with each other. The coil spring is generally not damaged, only the middle damping element is damaged.

The coil spring is actually the shock absorber. This spring is hardly damaged. Generally speaking, the spring is responsible for damping, absorbing energy, and smoothing the vibration. However, everyone knows that the spring is soft and elastic, so if it is only a spring, the body will sway and bounce back and forth, so a damping element is needed to suppress the repeated vibration of the spring.

The damping element itself cannot absorb shock. Below is the hydraulic oil. The shock absorber core of many models will leak oil. After the oil leaks, the body will feel swaying and bumping up and down when passing through pits.

The basic principle of a shock absorber is very simple, it is a piston with hydraulic oil inside to limit the movement of the piston. That is, the faster the movement, the greater the damping force. There is almost no damping force when you compress inward, but you stretch outward, the faster the speed, the greater the damping force. The function of this element is to limit the up and down sway of the spring. After the spring absorbs energy, the damping element absorbs the swaying energy of the spring, and finally achieves the function of shock absorption.
